ICIWaRM Co-Represents the USA at the Biennial Council Meeting of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme

From 3-7 June, 2024, ICIWaRM scientists represented the United States at the 26th Intergovernmental Council Meeting of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP). Will Logan served as Alternate Representative on the delegation and Rachel Grandpre served as a Government Advisor. The Council meets biennially to evaluate the previous two years’ progress and plan for the next biennium. The USA is one of 35 member states on the Council.

Will Logan was a panelist at the UNESCO Water Family Symposium preceding the Council meeting, on 4 June. He spoke at the session on “The Contribution of the Water Family to Capacity Development”. He emphasized the close relationship that ICIWaRM has with IHP’s Global Network for Water and Development Information in Arid Lands (G-WADI), functioning as G-WADI’s Global Technical Secretariat.

Logan also spoke on “Knowns and Unknowns in Water Science and Policy” at a Side Event on “Integrating Advanced Hydrological Sciences into Policy Formulation and Evaluation: Focusing on Water Security and innovative solutions”, on 7 Jun. The event was organized by the International Centre for Water Security and Sustainable Management (i-WSSM), which is hosted by the government of the Republic of Korea.
