ICIWaRM Participates in Meetings of UNESCO Category 2 Science Centers in Beijing and Koblenz
ICIWaRM attended two separate meetings of the UNESCO category 2 centers in May. Director Bob Pietrowsky represented the center at the inaugural meeting of the Directors of 47 UNESCO Category 2 Science and Water Centers from around the world, in Beijing, China on May 16-18. During the meeting, which involved over 100 participants, he chaired and/or moderated several working groups and reported at plenary sessions during the meeting.
The centers worked together in support of UNESCO’s efforts to address the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals focusing on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development. The meeting was hosted by the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (IKCEST) and the International Centre on Space Technologies for Natural and Cultural Heritage (HIST) of China.
Deputy Director Will Logan attended a meeting of the Region 1 (Western Europe, US, Canada, Israel and Turkey) National Committees and Centers of the International Hydrological Program (IHP) in Koblenz, Germany, 24-25 May. Attendees worked to come to consensus on various IHP issues and began planning for a water diplomacy symposium in November to be hosted by the International Centre for Water Cooperation (Sweden), with participation from the International Centre for Water Resources and Global Change (Germany), Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science (Scotland), and ICIWaRM.
