ICIWaRM Provides Training in Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling at ASCE-EWRI Meeting in Sri Lanka
Mark Jensen and Tom Brauer of the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) taught courses in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling at the ASCE-EWRI 8th International Perspective on Water Resources and the Environment Conference in Sri Lanka, January 3-6, 2016. Jensen taught an eight-hour short course describing the River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) and its application to river hydraulic modeling studies, while Brauer taught a separate eight-hour short course about the Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) and applications to precipitation-runoff modeling.”
Most of the participants were from Sri Lanka; some were students and professionals looking to apply the model to their projects; others were educators intending to pass the information they learned on to their students. Throughout the short courses and conference the instructors received many questions on how to apply HEC models to their particular projects. One of the advantages of HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS is that they provide the developing world powerful planning and decision support tools free of charge.
