Member States Approve United States Re-entry into UNESCO

UNESCO member states have approved a draft resolution to permit the US to rejoin the organization as a member state. The vote was 132 to 10, with 15 abstentions. The vote was held at the Fifth extraordinary session of the General Conference, on 30 July 2023.

Should the US formally rejoin the Organization as a Member State by 31 July 2023, it may take part in the voting at the General Conference at its 42nd session, be eligible as a Member of the Executive Board in the elections that will take place at its 42nd session and, if applicable, take part in the voting at sessions of the Executive Board until the 43rd session of the General Conference.
