Sixth CRIDA Seminar Focuses on Enhancing Urban Water Resilience: Case Studies from South America

The sixth UNESCO-AGWA-ICIWaRM webinar in a series on Adaptation in an age of uncertainty: tools for climate-resilient water management approaches took place on 27 April 2021. It focused on urban water resilience cases from South America, specifically concerning the coastal delta city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, and the Guadalquivir and Azero basins of Bolivia. Both addressed the impacts of climate change and hydrological extremes and their consequences to urban water management.

Hydro-climatic extremes such as heavy rainfall and floods are responsible for catastrophic impacts worldwide. Densely populated cities in coastal areas and river margins, increased impermeabilization of the land surface, and sea-level rise tend to aggravate these problems.

A Q&A session was held after the presentations, with the participation of local project partners, and also featured questions from the audience in order to facilitate an open discussion and provide for an interactive webinar.
