COP-26 Event on Planning for uncertainty through climate-resilient water management approaches
ICIWaRM co-organized and participated in a session at the Glasgow Climate Change Conference (COP-26) on “Planning for uncertainty through climate-resilient water management approaches.” The event was held at the Water Pavilion of the COP-26, and also virtually, on 10 November 2021. The other organizers were UNESCO-IHP and its G-WADI major initiative, and the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AWGA).
This event was designed to build upon momentum from the pre-COP Global Conference “Climate-Resilient Water Management Approaches: Application Towards Climate Action and 2030 Development Agenda” held in October 2021. Speakers presented on effective and scalable frameworks for assessing and addressing climate risks, identifying the policies and institutional capacity needed to more widely incorporate these approaches within national climate programs, climate finance, and the private sector.
The speakers included:
Abou Amani, Director of the Division of Water Sciences, UNESCO
John Matthews, Executive Director, AGWA
Anil Mishra, Chief of Hydrological Systems and Water Scarcity Section, UNESCO
Rita Marteleira, Associate Project Officer, Hydrological Systems and Water Scarcity Section, UNESCO
Bhava Dhungana or Marlan Pillay, UNFCCC secretariat
Graham Jewitt, Professor, IHE Delft
Gabriel Mancilla, Executive Director, CAZALAC
A panel discussion was moderated by Will Logan, Director of ICIWaRM.
